Jose L. Piedra is one of the most underappreciated marques in the Habanos portfolio. Founded in 1880, it predates many of Cuba’s more celebrated names and occupies a distinctive position as an honest, unpretentious cigar produced from Partido region tobacco — a growing region just outside Havana that yields leaf with a distinctive earthy, woody character.

Unlike the Vuelta Abajo-centric blends of Cohiba, Montecristo and Partagas, Jose L. Piedra draws from Partido and Semi-Vuelta, producing a profile that is drier, woodier and more tobacco-forward. The Petit Caballeros is the brand’s smallest standard production vitola — a compact format well suited to the short break or the introductory cigar.

The construction is machine-made for most smaller formats, using genuine Cuban leaf throughout. The wrapper is a natural brown, the draw consistent, and the burn even. It opens with dry earth and dried tobacco, develops into a woody mid-section with leather undertones, and closes cleanly.
